International musical duo Jake & Shelby have released a new song, “Morning Light,” inspired by a powerful story that leads right back to Cape Cod.

This summer, while on a break from their busy tour schedule, Jake Lawson and Shelby Hiam were invited to spend a week on Cape Cod. They played a backyard concert at the home of Brad Hooper, an Executive with Cedarstone Records and a Board member of the Cape Cod Foster Closet (CCFC).

After learning about CCFC’s mission and programs—providing clothing and basic necessities to foster and kinship families—Shelby was compelled to share publicly for the first time her own childhood experience in foster care.

Soon after, she was inspired to write “Morning Light,” reflecting on that experience.

“We hope that this song can help people feel less alone in whatever they’ve walked through or are walking through,” said Shelby Hiam.

A Gift of Awareness and Support

“Morning Light” was released on December 5th. Jake & Shelby have generously pledged to give a portion of the proceeds from the song to the Cape Cod Foster Closet. Their goal is to raise awareness and provide meaningful financial support for CCFC’s critical work.

“We are deeply touched and honored that Shelby felt moved to share her story with us and then wrote this beautiful song to reflect her experience,” said Sharon Palmer, co-founder of the Closet with her husband Andy. “Jake & Shelby’s generosity in sharing part of the proceeds of this song will benefit so many.”

What This Means for Local Families

This partnership highlights the urgent need that CCFC addresses daily. Many children enter the foster care system or are taken in by kinship families (relatives who step up) often with little more than the clothes they are wearing.

CCFC delivers immediate and ongoing dignity-centered support.

The proceeds from “Morning Light” will help us sustain and expand our vital programs that ensure every child has access to essential items, promoting stability and well-being during a time of crisis. This support is a critical, preventative measure that helps keep local foster and kinship homes open, reducing the trauma of multiple moves for vulnerable children.
